Interview:

1. What initially inspired you to pursue a career in forensic science?

Career building in this very field was never my preference of choice but later I was influenced by its multidisciplinary nature and with due course of time the practical application of forensics during my academic journey sparked my interest.

Despite my initial lack of interest, the evolving understanding of Forensics’ societal importance and its challenging nature ultimately shaped my decision to pursue a career in this fascinating field.

2. Share your journey of clearing each of the exams (FACT, SET, and NET).

Preparing for any competitive exam requires a thorough analysis of the syllabus.

I utilized a variety of resources, including standard textbooks, online materials, and past question papers to familiarize myself with the exam pattern.

Practice tests played a crucial role in refining my time management skills and enhancing my problem-solving abilities.

3. Did you join any coaching programs?

I did not enroll in any coaching programs for this exam.

Personally, I found that independent study was sufficient. However, the decision to join coaching programs depends on individual preferences and learning preferences.

I recommend evaluating your own needs before making a choice.

4. Share your preparation tips for FACT, SET, and NET.

The basic things one must follow while appearing for any competitive exam are creating a proper STUDY PLAN, precise RESOURCE SELECTION, consistence REVISION, and solving MODEL TESTS and PRACTICE QUESTIONS.

For FACT which I cleared in 2022 needed a thorough knowledge of basic sciences mostly of 11th and 12th NCERT textbooks and very generalized concepts from Forensic biology.
I got posted in CFSL Pune in the Biology/DNA division after clearing the interview round where I was asked some practical-based questions and case study understandings were assessed.

For SET Exam which I qualified for in May 2023 from Maharashtra state involved a very similar structure of examination to that of NET with only the difference of an offline pattern for appearance. I followed some standard books for paper 1 and paper 2 with frequent revisions.

For NET Exam which I qualified for in Dec 2022, June 2023, and Dec 2023 was a combination of some really concept-based and some very odd-length question types. Clearing the exam consistently three times is all due to the maximum question solving and repeated reading of important topics from paper 2.

5. What specific study techniques or methods did you find most effective during your exam preparations?

Apart from the things listed above I would share one really important point that can be of great help to the readers like Mind Mapping which proved particularly effective for me. It allowed me to visually organize complex topics and their relationships, making it easier to recall information during exams.

6. You cleared 3 competitive exams and then also enrolled in a PhD. What one thing that you think elevates you from achieving your goal?

I believe the one key factor that has consistently propelled me toward achieving my goals is my unwavering commitment to continuous learning. Throughout the process one has to be a disciplined and a dedicated person towards his work and duties.

7. How has our platform helped you in your exams?

I have found the platform to be an invaluable resource in preparing for my exams. The platform’s versatility, accommodating a wide range of topics and subjects, has been particularly beneficial in supplementing my exam preparations.

Given my positive experience, I would wholeheartedly recommend this platform to others preparing for exams because practice makes it all go perfect.

Listing that the explanations provided for every wrong answer is the best part of this platform which makes it special from the rest of all.

8. Were there any setbacks or challenges you faced during your preparation, and how did you overcome them?

Just like any journey, my exam preparation was not without its challenges. One significant setback I faced was managing time effectively. Balancing study commitments with job responsibilities required careful planning and dedication.

To overcome this, I created a detailed study schedule, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and importance. Breaking down the syllabus into manageable sections helped me allocate time wisely and maintain a consistent study routine.

Another challenge was dealing with occasional self-doubt and stress, which I think is a common challenge faced by the majority of us preparing for exams. The vastness of the syllabus and the pressure of performing well can be overwhelming. To address this, I focused on maintaining a positive mindset and taking regular recreational breaks. Seeking support from family also provided valuable perspectives and encouragement.

Additionally, there were times when certain topics seemed particularly challenging. In such cases, I adopted a proactive approach. I followed some YouTube tutorial videos, and following the strategy of breaking down complex topics into smaller, more digestible parts allowed me to grasp difficult concepts more effectively.

Ultimately, walking over the line of changing challenges into opportunities helped me overcome and do well.

9. What kept you motivated during the times when preparation became particularly challenging?

I would definitely say that positive affirmations and self-motivating statements helped me in fostering a positive mindset. Reminding myself of past achievements and capabilities instilled confidence during moments of self-doubt.

10. Could you share some practical tips on time management for students juggling exam preparation with other responsibilities?

It is hard to follow the tips I am sharing here but again it is important to recognize your limits and be willing to say a “NO” to additional commitments when necessary. Prioritize your well-being and focus on the most essential tasks.

Remember, effective time management is about finding a balance that works for you. Experiment with these tips, and tailor your approach based on your personal preferences and responsibilities.

11. How was the transition from clearing your exams to enrolling in a PhD program at the National Forensic Sciences University?

The transition from clearing my exams to enrolling in a Ph.D. program, especially at the National Forensic Sciences University, was a significant milestone in my academic journey as I always wanted to get into research.

While working in CFSL on real-time cases helped me figure out some really untouched sections in forensics which actually needed a lot of attention and so I was very much clear with my thoughts on the problem statement I would carry further as my research area.

When we talk about the Ph.D. selection process in NFSU, a combination of factors is responsible. Of course, a Strong Academic Record plays a crucial role in the stated process. A solid foundation in relevant subjects is often a key criterion for Ph.D. admissions.

Again, the most important thing is developing a clear and compelling research proposal. That should showcase the understanding of the subject matter and must demonstrate the feasibility and significance of your intended research. Yet another thing to list is demonstrating alignment with the ongoing research activities and interests of faculty members at the National Forensic Sciences University, this can significantly enhance your application. It shows that you are aware of the institution’s strengths and can contribute to its academic community.

The interview performance is a major factor in the Ph.D. selection process. This involves preparing thoroughly and articulating my research interests and goals effectively during the interview helped create a positive impression. I was asked questions on instrumentation and working principles. Research Ethics was also covered in my interview. The overall experience was very enlightening.

I would say that the road to a Ph.D. selection can be demanding, but it is also a path filled with growth, resilience, and the joy of contributing something meaningful to your field.

12. Role of your supporting peers in your success

The constant motivation and positive reinforcement from my loved ones played a pivotal role. Their belief in my abilities, even when I doubted myself, served as a continuous source of motivation to persevere.

13. Looking back, how do you think this journey has shaped you both personally and professionally?

Looking back on this journey, I see it as a transformative experience that has shaped me into a more resilient individual.

On a personal level, the challenges and triumphs have shaped my character and deepened my sense of self-awareness, and professionally, the journey has equipped me with valuable skills, expanded my knowledge base, and opened doors to new opportunities.
